Thought-provoking movies
Films that do not end with the credits.
Films that make you go quiet first and argue later. Moral dilemmas with no correct answer, open endings and characters who are hard to simply condemn. A good list to watch with someone — there will be plenty to discuss.

Frequently asked
- What makes a film thought-provoking?
- Usually one of three things: a character makes a choice the viewer cannot cleanly judge, the ending is left open, or a familiar situation is shown from an unexpected angle. All three appear in this list.
- Does that mean heavy viewing?
- Not necessarily. Smart is not the same as bleak — comedies and science fiction show up here too. If you do want something heavy, add words about loss or war to the search.
