Movies about music and musicians
Rehearsals, tours and the price of a life on stage.
Films to watch with the volume up. Musician biopics, bands going from the garage to the stadium, singers, jazz players and people who never quite made it. Almost every one of them reaches the same fork — the music or everything else — and almost every one takes it differently.

Frequently asked
- What are the best movies about musicians?
- Start with the biopics: you get a life story and a lot of live music. Then move to fictional band stories, where you can stop fact-checking and just watch a song being born.
- Is it all rock?
- No. Rock shows up most because more films have been made about it, but pop, jazz, country and classical are here too. Add a specific style to the query in search to narrow it down.
