Synopsis

A military dictator in a fictional country, modeled on early-1970s Chile, has risen from butcher to junta leader but now, isolated and distrustful, confides only in his guard Manuel. Manuel, who once shared the dictator’s humble origins, betrays him without hesitation when a popular uprising topples the regime and personally kills him.

Mood and atmosphere

Immerse yourself in a hauntingly atmospheric tale of power and betrayal, where the weight of isolation hangs heavy in the air. The film evokes a deep sense of melancholy, reflecting on the fragility of trust and the quiet desperation of a crumbling regime. As the tension builds, the visuals capture a stark contrast between the oppressive military landscape and fleeting moments of human connection. With warm colors washed in shades of gray, this slow-burning narrative invites viewers to ponder themes of identity, freedom, and rebellion. Ideal for a cozy evening when you seek to explore the depths of the human psyche amidst a backdrop of political turmoil.
