Synopsis
In the Tianjin port before liberation, workers suffer from the exploitation of the Ma family (played by Chen Shihe) and the Nationalist rulers, struggling on the brink of death. The porter Hu Er (played by Guo Paiqing) endures hunger while carrying goods, fainting from exhaustion, and his son is killed by the Ma family's henchman while picking up grain on the ground. Hu's wife (played by Li Xiaogong) faints upon hearing the news. Angry workers gather to discuss, electing Hu Er and Ding Zhanyuan (played by Li Ziping) as representatives to storm the Ma family's birthday banquet, demanding unpaid wages and a raise, or they will strike.
