Synopsis
In the year 2035, convict James Cole reluctantly volunteers to be sent back in time to discover the origin of a deadly virus that wiped out nearly all of the earth's population and forced the survivors into underground communities. But when Cole is mistakenly sent to 1990 instead of 1996, he's arrested and locked up in a mental hospital. There he meets psychiatrist Dr. Kathryn Railly and the son of a famous virus expert who may hold the key to the Army of the 12 Monkeys; thought to be responsible for unleashing the killer disease.

Mood and atmosphere
Immerse yourself in a hauntingly beautiful journey that explores themes of memory, identity, and the fragility of time. Set against a dystopian future where the remnants of humanity cling to life underground, this film evokes a sense of loneliness intertwined with a glimmer of hope. The aesthetic is rich with nostalgic elements, reminiscent of the gritty streets of the 90s, infused with a surreal touch that blurs the lines between sanity and madness. With a mesmerizing soundtrack that echoes through the mind, it invites introspection and philosophical musings. Perfect for those cozy evenings when you seek a thought-provoking experience that lingers long after the credits roll, resonating with emotions of grief, longing, and the quest for freedom amidst chaos.
