Synopsis
The wastelands and crowded streets of an African country are traversed by a woman bearing a wooden cross on her back. She is followed by sellers, beggars and passersby, outraged voices, pity and curious glances. Parallel to her, among a herd of sheep, a lamb toddles its way from the far away mountains into the heart of the city, only to find itself dangling, skinned and headless, on a butcher’s shoulder. In the meantime, under the scorching sun, in a roofless house, a woman is persistently knitting a garment, unwinding a thread coiled over her son’s face.

Mood and atmosphere
This film immerses you in a haunting yet profoundly beautiful exploration of loss and motherhood, weaving together the stark contrasts of a bustling urban landscape and the serene isolation of rural life. The atmosphere is heavy with the weight of nostalgia and grief, as the imagery of a woman carrying a wooden cross evokes themes of sacrifice and endurance. The vibrant colors of the market juxtaposed with the rawness of nature create a visceral experience that lingers long after the credits roll. With its minimalistic yet striking cinematography, this work invites reflection on identity and the bonds that tether us to our origins, making it a poignant choice for those seeking emotional depth and artistic resonance in their viewing experience.
