Synopsis

The construction of the Vakhsh Canal, one of the largest new buildings of the first five-year plan, is underway. Two Americans are coming here under contract. A seasoned spy, Colonel Bailey, who introduced himself as the harmless traveler Mr. Murry, would later be caught red-handed and exposed. And Mr. Clark, who came to the "make money" channel, will gradually become convinced that work and politics are not such different concepts. Not accepting socialism, he quite sincerely sympathizes with the enthusiasm of the Soviet people. Love for the translator - Komsomol member Maria Polozova - helps Clark to comprehend what is happening.

Mood and atmosphere

Immerse yourself in a world where ambition meets the stark realities of political change, creating an atmosphere thick with tension and introspection. This film evokes a sense of nostalgia for the raw, unfiltered energy of the early Soviet era, exploring themes of identity and transformation against the backdrop of monumental construction. As characters navigate the complexities of friendship and love amidst ideological struggles, the viewer is drawn into a beautifully shot landscape that contrasts the warmth of human connection with the chill of a shifting world. Perfect for those seeking a reflective journey through history, layered with emotions of hope and uncertainty, wrapped in rich visuals and a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack.
