Synopsis

Pinglet, a building entrepreneur married to an unattractive woman, is in love with the wife of his friend and partner, architect Paillardin. When he has to leave, Madame Paillardin, tired of her husband's cavalier attitude, agrees to the secret rendezvous set by Pinglet. The two end their evening in a rundown hotel, the hotel of free exchange. What they don't know is that Paillardin is also there. Moreover, no one suspects that the hotel is also the meeting place for Pinglet's maid and Paillardin's nephew. Finally, no one knows that Mathieu, a friend from the province who came to Paris with his four daughters, is also staying at the hotel of free exchange. The stage is thus set for a multiplication of lies and misunderstandings.

Mood and atmosphere

Step into a world of whimsical intrigue and clandestine encounters, where the atmosphere is thick with romantic tension and playful deception. This film evokes feelings of nostalgia for the charm of vintage Paris, with its cozy cafés and hidden corners, all set against a backdrop of beautiful, warm colors. The slow, deliberate pacing invites viewers to savor each moment, immersing them in a delightful blend of comedy and yearning. With echoes of the 1920s, it captures the essence of love’s complexities, loneliness amidst the hustle of city life, and the bittersweet nature of desire. Ideal for those rainy days when you seek both laughter and a touch of melancholy, this cinematic experience dances between the lines of affection and betrayal, leaving you with a lingering sense of hope and whimsy.
