Synopsis
Klaus Barbie was responsible for thousands of victims in the Lyon region. A refugee in Germany, the "Butcher of Lyon" was hired by American intelligence services as the Cold War began. After several extradition requests from France, they facilitated his extraction through a channel close to the Vatican in 1951. Destination La Paz in Bolivia. Under his new identity, Klaus Altmann, he would develop business quietly, getting closer to the dictators in power. The determination of the Klarsfelds in the 1970s and the intervention of Robert Badinter, the Keeper of the Seals, with President Mitterrand as democracy returned to Bolivia, would lead to Barbie's arrest. He was brought back to France in 1983 to be tried after forty years on the run.
